50% FOR ILLITERATE PEOPLE

We are celebrating our first anniversary and will donate 50% of the proceeds of all typefaces which are purchased from the abcde-shop in the week of 11–17 March, 2013, to a foundation for illiterate people.
We are doing this action because we want to bring the world of type designer and the beginning readers a little bit closer to each other. Because by designing a typeface the designers often assume that it will be read by people who are accustomed to read newspapers, books and other text-based media. The activity of reading is a practiced reader rarely aware, he automatically reads groups of letters before he thinks about whether he wants to read it or not. But until reading is automatic, there's a long way. The reading must be learned, you have to get along in the world of letters, learn their shapes and their forms before you can read words. This is a capacity which is not easy for everybody and requires time and practice to be learned. To help those people who have difficulties to find their way in the world of writing, we donate 50% of the proceeds of all typefaces which are purchased from the abcde-shop in the week of 11–17 March, 2013, to a foundation for illiterate people.

Our typeface "Medien" which was designed to work on printed and screen media was used by the IAD Interaction Design from the Zurich University of the Arts to design their stand at Blickfang Zürich.
EINS BIS SECHZEN

The typefaces Ernesto and Rekja were used for the CD publication "EINS BIS SECHZEHN" of the sound artist Ephraim Wegner and the photographer Julia Weinmann. The slipcase contains 7 folded leaflets and one CD. The CD publication was designed by the graphic designer Clovis Vallois. It is available at our abcde-shop.

We are proud of our typeface Medien, that has won the 2nd Prize in the Latin Text
Typefaces Category at the Granshan Type Design Competition 2012 in Armenia.

Nouvelle Noire will market a series of ten of original fonts from Philippe Apeloig one, called 'Abf,' will be available in september 2012, the others in 2013.

Type Directors Club New York 2012: The text typeface Rekja has won a Certificate of Typographic Excellence from Type Directors Club in New York 2012 and was shown at the drupa in Düsseldorf Germany. There will be some upcoming exhibitions in the near future in Europe.

How do we read books?
How does a reader contribute to the content of a written text?
The book "Nothing else that this." is a typographical experiment that forces the reader to change his reading habits. Instead of the normal word by word, line by line reading the reader has to read the phrase page by page. The saccades are becoming unusualy big which forces the reader to read quite carefully in order to understand the content.The book "Nothing else than this." is edited by Anton Studer and Balz Isler and is published by Darling Publications in Cologne.
